The legendary Mariah Carey lit up the stage (and the internet) at the 2025 BET Awards, showing off her dramatic weight loss in two unforgettable outfits. The 56-year-old music legend wowed in a shimmering gold gown and a curve-hugging black ensemble that flaunted her slim new figure.
Fans on X (formerly Twitter) couldn’t stop talking about her radiant appearance and commanding performance of her latest single, 'Type Dangerous', during the star-studded event on Monday, June 9.
One X wrote, “Mariah Carey looks amazing. She stands there, letting her outfit speak for her, rocks her hips for a lil 1,2 and gives us vocals. I expect nothing more! She looks great!.”
Another social media fan posted, “Watching the BET awards all extra late and Mariah Carey looks amazing.” A third commented, “Mariah Carey looked so good at the BET Awards Wow.”
While Mariah has not publicly commented on her weight loss, it has been reported that she has made wellness, self-care, and a balanced lifestyle a priority in her life.
The R’n’B icon won the Ultimate Icon Award at the event, and she encouraged her fans to be divas and bosses. In light-hearted reference to her own diva reputation, she said in her speech, “If you’re gonna get one, might as well start with the Ultimate Icon Award.”
The pop singer continued, “My life and career have been quite an adventure. I will spare you the long, drawn-out saga tonight. It’s all in my book anyway. It took me a while, but I finally realized life is far too short to live for anyone else’s approval, which is something I always did. Thank you so much, so I decided to own who I am.”
“My extra-ness, my fabulousness, and yes, my success and my iconic-ness, I guess, that’s what they’re telling me tonight, and I appreciate it! I’m so grateful for you all to celebrate it with me tonight. Thank you so much."
"I just want to encourage everyone out there to believe in yourself. Love and respect yourself. Be a diva, be a boss, be anything you wanna be. But be iconic while you’re doing it.”
Mariah previously revealed her “coping mechanisms” with fame include avoiding looking at anything that is written about her. She told People in 2024, “I would say it’s writing. It’s prayer. It’s like these little things that can take you from possibly being in a really bad mood to just being in a better place immediately. And just really being thankful for all scenarios, all the moments that come our way.”
“I don’t read anything written about me. That’s one of my coping mechanisms. It’s taking a bath.” Mariah will be in London this Sunday, June 15th, when she performs at Capital’s Summertime Ball with Barclaycard 2025 at Wembley Stadium.
